Using Social Media To Influence Presidential Campaign Success

A recent study by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) revealed that Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton were ranked as the top two social media influencers of all the presidential candidates. With both of them also holding the top spots in their respective political parties, the connection between social media influence and campaign success is proving to be a powerful one.

For this reason, I wanted to see if you would be interested in an infographic created by New England College’s Master of Arts in Public Policy, which explores the impact of social media on presidential campaigns. As the infographic points out, 45% of registered voters used their smartphones to read social media comments about a campaign or candidate and 35% used their smartphones to research a candidate or political campaign.

Social media has become a powerful tool in politics with politicians of all shades using it to spread their message to the public. In the US, President Obama’s successful use of social media during the 2008 and 2012 campaigns proved that politicians can use social media to effectively complement traditional fundraising and voter wooing strategies.
