Press Release: DietDemand Weighs in on Diet Soda Debate: Is it Good or Bad?

Salt Lake City, UT, May 16, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Diet Soda as an alternative to regular soda for those with diabetes or are wanting to lose weight has been a popular drink for decades as far as taste and purported benefits are concerned. People all over the world love carbonated sodas, so a seemingly guilt-free, similar-tasting option can do no wrong, right? Not necessarily. Back in the 20th century, when access to health research was limited to universities, libraries and the press, consumers generally knew very little about the products they were buying. Well-known soda companies who consumers had rather personal attachments to, trusted labels that read ‘low-calorie’ or ‘zero sugar.’ However, these diet soda products weren’t as innocent as they seemed and in retrospect, some might say that these products have the potential to be worse than regular soda. For one thing, there’s no nutritional value in any soda drink, diet or otherwise. The drinks are made up of sugar (high fructose corn syrup), phosphoric acid, caffeine, carbonated water, food coloring, and added fillers. It might be weird to think of a food or drink as being scientific, but if any product fits that definition soda is definitely it as nothing about it is derived from natural sources. As for diet soda, its biggest controversy stems from use of artificial sweeteners. Touted as a safer alternative to white sugar and corn syrup, sweeteners like aspartame, saccharin or sucralose were added to many foods, including diet soda brands. Additionally, while a diet soda may offer fewer calories in one sitting, these sweeteners have a direct impact on our brain’s desire to eat, thus playing a role in overeating and snacking. All in all, drinking diet soda probably isn’t going to be a magic bullet when it comes to weight loss. When you factor in the additional risks, drinking diet soda on a regular basis just isn’t worth it. For diet help that truly works, DietDemand offers full-scale diet planning on your beh...
