Assange's lawyer reacts after UK court appearance

(11 Apr 2019) The lawyer for Julian Assange said on Thursday the Wikileaks founder will fight extradition to the United States after he was arrested from the Ecuadorian Embassy in London. Robinson offered a defiant tone in speaking to reporters suggesting that Assange had long said he would face arrest if expelled from the embassy. We've today received a warrant and a provisional extradition request from the United States alleging that he has conspired with Chelsea Manning, in relation to the materials that were published by WikiLeaks in 2010, Robinson said. Robinson also said that his arrest sets a dangerous precedent for journalists in the United States but that at least he can now get medical care while in jail. Assange was arrested at the Ecuadorian Embassy on Thursday setting up a potential court battle over attempts to extradite him to the U.S. to face charges related to the publication of tens of thousands of secret government documents.
