Gaming Software News: Swedish gambling regulator penalizes two local companies for noncompliance with Spelpaus

22 March 2019, Sweden’s gambling regulator, Spelinspektionen, imposed fines on its two licensees. Genesis Global Ltd and Paf Consulting online gambling brands must now pay $430,000 and $10,000 respectively for failing to comply with self-shutdown requirements established by the regulatory body on 1 January 2019.

Both gambling operators had accepted wagers on real money from players who were registered on Spelpaus, the national self-exclusion register. The issue was uncovered when the enlisted people started calling with claims that they could have accessed to play.

The difference in money penalties faced by the companies was commented by the general director of the Swedish gambling regulator, Camilla Rosenberg. She told that both amounts were decided upon the gambling turnover, the duration of non-compliance and the measures taken by the operators to remedy the violation.

In the explanation of the circumstances, the fined companies said that it was due to the malfunctions of third-party’s software that connected to the register. Rosenberg added that in future operators licensed to operate in Sweden should properly integrate their systems with Spelpaus to offer better self-protection to the players in Sweden.
