Children should come first: Parents going through a divorce need to protect their children's emotional well-being while establishing a stable, predictable routine.

Both husbands and wives need to understand their financial and legal rights: Decisions about custody, child support, property, and retirement savings can have long-term consequences.

Planning and cooperation can make divorce less damaging: Getting legal advice early, documenting finances, and developing a realistic parenting plan can help both parents avoid costly mistakes.
