Passive Income In 2020: Selling Digital Products

Listen To This Article

You are probably wondering why you should create digital products? The reason for this is that they can be an excellent source of passive income to you and your business. First and foremost, what are digital products?

Business Opportunity Ideas: Passive Income In 2020: Selling Digital Products

There are many types of digital products: courses, printables, high ticket dropshipping, templates or worksheets, workbooks PDFs, shopify chrome extension, etc. Anything that falls into the category of something that someone can download and use, without you really having to babysit it. So what you're going to want to do is find out a way to make those things. So first and foremost, if you're going to make a course for instance, then figure out how you're going to do that. Is it going to be face to face on video, just audio or in written form?

You need to determine how you are processing the actual information inside of the course. Okay, if you're going to go with more of a printable digital product or a template you need to figure out what platform you're going to use or what program that will work best to create the digital product that you are creating. So let's say you are wanting to sell a spreadsheet template to online business owners who want to do their own accounting. That's a good example.

You would want to choose between Google Docs and sharing it, that way, once someone has purchased or creating an actual spreadsheet in Excel and then having them download that file. You would sort of want to decide what your perfect avenue was to design and give that thing that you're wanting to sell. Now, if you're wanting to create printables or PDFs or worksheets or templates or something like that that is just a standard image or a standard worksheet or a standard PDF. Then you're going to want to use something like Photoshop or InDesign or Canva even to create and layout the product, but always keep in mind that every time you are making a template of some sort that you need to make it in a file format that someone can easily open and use.

So let's say I was making a template for a PowerPoint presentation about oberlo alternatives and how to drive traffic to your Shopify store, but I only have a Mac and don't own PowerPoint. If I created in the keynote, then it will make it impossible for someone with PowerPoint or using Google slides to use my presentation template. So I would want to make sure I either created it in all platforms possible or advertised it only as a keynote product or I would want to make it generic and maybe use something like Google slides that I know everybody has access to. If you're creating a template specifically for a program that's totally fine, like Photoshop illustrator, at least, you know, when you're advertising that the people who are buying it probably have those programs or they wouldn't be buying your stuff. Now, if you're going to create something like a font or a graphic file or something like that, you are probably going to want to use, a font software or a tablet that allows you to draw your font in a font creation app. They have those for the iPad anything like that will get you an end result of having a file the type that people can download and use themselves.

Okay. So now how do you sell these things? This is easy. With courses you can sell these in so many ways: You can sell a course on your own website, you can even go as easy and as simple as creating a password protected page and when someone pays you with a PayPal button, they get the password to the page. That's not the best way to go about it, because people can share the password or something could happen, but it's definitely an option for those of you just starting out or if you're looking for a super simple solution. There's also solutions like “Think ethic” or “Teachable” and then, there’s my personal favorite: Using a plug-in that runs on your WordPress site, that allows you to host everything there.
