Subaru and Lexus are pulling ahead of the auto pack when it comes to customer satisfaction, according to new survey data from the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI).

The annual ACSI Automobile Study shows overall driver satisfaction slipping 1% to a score of 79 (on a 100-point scale) despite the industry reaching its strongest sales in five years. The decline comes as buyers face steeper payments over longer loan periods.

In the mass-market segment, Subaru rose 2% to an industry-leading score of 85, separating itself from Toyota, which fell 1% to 82 and now shares second place with Mazda. Buick, GMC, and Honda followed close behind at 81. Subarus reputation for safety and dependability, along with freshened models like the redesigned Forester and new Crosstrek engine options, helped solidify its lead.

Luxury brands

On the luxury side, Lexus leapt 6% to a score of 87, leapfrogging last years co-leaders Mercedes-Benz (82) and Tesla (81). The Toyota-owned brand is benefitting from booming hybrid sales, with five Lexus models ranking among the top 15 most popular luxury hybrids in 2024. Lexus electrified sales climbed more than 13% year over year in the first quarter of 2025.

The study also highlights shifting consumer expectations as automakers balance technology, safety, and cost. Vehicle safety and technology both slipped by one percentage point, while two newly added measures driving range on a full charge or tank and expected future resale value debuted at the bottom of the rankings. Electric vehicles fared worst on both counts.

For automakers, innovation and practicality now collide, said Forrest Morgeson, Associate Professor of Marketing at Michigan State University and Director of Research Emeritus at the ACSI. Customers expect advanced technology and efficiency, but theyre also scrutinizing every dollar spent.

The 2025 ACSI Automobile Study is based on nearly 10,000 customer surveys conducted between July 2024 and June 2025.

McDonalds is expanding its value offerings with a new Under $3 Menu and a $4 breakfast meal deal, part of a broader effort to attract price-conscious consumers and build on its McValue platform.

The fast-food giant said the updated menu will roll out at participating U.S. locations starting April 21, trying to entice customers with more low-cost options across breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Under $3 menu

The centerpiece of the announcement is the new Under $3 Menu, which will include at least 10 items available throughout the day, allowing customers to mix and match items at a consistent low price.

Breakfast options willinclude staples such as the Sausage McMuffin, Sausage Biscuit, Sausage Burrito, hash browns, and medium McCaf coffee. Lunch and dinner items will feature the McChicken, McDouble, four-piece Chicken McNuggets, small fries, and a medium soft drink.

In addition, McDonalds plans to spotlight select items at even lower promotional prices throughout the year, starting with a Sausage McMuffin priced at $1.50 and a McDouble at $2.50, for a limited time.

$4 breakfast meal deal

Alongside the new menu, the company is introducing a $4 breakfast meal deal that includes a choice of a Sausage McMuffin or Sausage Biscuit, served with hash browns and a small McCaf coffee.

McDonalds will also continue offering other bundled meal deals later in the day, including options starting at $5 and $6 that combine an entre with McNuggets, fries,and a drink.

Company executives said the initiative is designed to give customers more flexibility and control over how they build meals, while reinforcing the brands long-standing focus on value.

The move comes as fast-food chains across the industry emphasize affordability amid consumer concerns about rising prices, with McDonalds positioning the revamped McValue menu as a long-term strategy rather than a limited-time promotion.

A two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran and the conditional reopening of the Strait of Hormuz has eased immediate fears in global energy markets. Oil prices dropped by roughly 1314% following the announcement, reflecting expectations that one of the worlds most critical oil transit routes will resume operations.

But the short-term outlook for gasoline prices tells a more complicated story: relief at the pump is likely to lag, and may be modest at best.

The war, with the interruption of oil from the Persian Gulf, has sent the average U.S. gas price well past $4 a gallon. But much of the damage will not be quickly undone, analysts caution.

That said, Patrick DeHaan, head of Petroleum Analysis at GasBuddy, sees some slow relief at the pump. In a post on X Tuesday night, DeHaan said gas prices could start falling by a few cents a day in the next 48 hours.

Diesel prices may lag slightlybut where things stand now, diesel is NO longer likely to reach a record, he wrote. National average gasoline could fall below $4 in ~1-2 weeks, diesel >$5 in 6-8 weeks.

Shipping companies remain cautious

Even with the ceasefire in place, oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz normally responsible for about 20% of global oil shipments are not returning to normal overnight.

Shipping companies remain cautious about reentering the region, and some may require explicit security assurances before resuming operations.

At the same time, major Persian Gulf producers cut output significantly during the conflict, meaning supply chains must be rebuilt before markets stabilize.

As a result, the reopening is expected to be gradual and controlled, rather than a full restoration of pre-war flows.

Why gas prices arent falling yet

Despite falling crude prices, retail gasoline prices remain near multi-year highs. U.S. averages are hovering around $4.14 per gallon the highest level since 2022.

There are several reasons for the delay:

  • Lag effect: It typically takes weeks for lower crude costs to filter through refining, distribution, and retail pricing.

  • Tight inventories: The conflict caused a severe drawdown in global oil and fuel supplies.

  • Ongoing risk premium: Markets are still pricing in the possibility that the ceasefire could collapse.

Officials and analysts warn consumers not to expect immediate relief. Even in countries seeing improved supply outlooks, fuel prices have continued to rise in the short term.

You cant rule out volatility

Economists largely agree that gasoline prices may begin to ease later this spring but only if the ceasefire holds and shipping through Hormuz steadily increases.

Key factors to watch include:

  • Durability of the ceasefire: A breakdown could quickly reverse recent oil price declines.

  • Shipping confidence: Full tanker traffic is essential to restoring supply.

  • Production recovery: OPEC and Gulf producers must ramp output back up.

In the near term, the most likely scenario is continued volatility with a slight downward trend. Prices may have already peaked or could hover near current levels before gradually declining over the coming weeks.

Many times, operate with a similar set of goals. Makethe victim panic and then offer a way to help. That tactic has been adopted by criminals operating the Apple Pay scam, which is spreading quickly across the U.S.

These schemes use fake alerts and high-pressure phone calls to steal money and personal information.

A series of reports highlights how convincing these schemes can be. In one case, a victim received a text warning of a suspicious Apple Pay charge and was urged to call a number for help. The call connected her directly to a scammer posing as an official investigator, who ultimately convinced her to withdraw $15,000. Fortunately, a bank teller recognized the scam and told her to hang up.

How the scam works

The scam typically begins with a message often a text claiming theres a problem with your Apple Pay account.

These messages may say:

  • A purchase was attempted or declined

  • Your account is locked or under investigation

  • Immediate action is required

The message usually includes a phone number or link. Thats the trap.

If you call or click, youre connected to scammers impersonating Apple Support, your bank, or even law enforcement.

From there, the situation escalates quickly:

  • The scammer claims your money is at risk

  • They may already know personal details about you

  • Youre told to act immediately to protect your funds

In many cases, victims are instructed to:

  • Move money to a safe account

  • Withdraw cash

  • Send funds via Apple Pay, Apple Cash, or gift cards

The goal is to get you to authorize a payment yourself because once you do, its often very difficult to recover.

Why it works

Unlike traditional hacking, these rely on social engineering manipulating people rather than breaking into systems.

Apple Pay itself is secure, but scammers exploit trust in the brand and the speed of digital payments.

They also use:

  • Urgency: Act now or your account will be locked

  • Authority: Posing as Apple, banks, or federal agencies

  • Fear: Suggesting fraud, theft, or legal trouble

Warning signs to watch for

Experts say there are clear red flags:

  • Unexpected messages about Apple Pay activity

  • Requests to call a number in a text or email

  • Pressure to act immediately

  • Requests for codes, passwords, or personal information

  • Instructions to move money or lie to your bank

One key rule: Apple does not send unsolicited texts asking you to call support or provide sensitive information.

How to protect yourself

If you receive a suspicious message:

  • Do not click links or call the number provided

  • Check your Apple Pay activity directly on your device

  • Contact your bank or Apple using official channels

And if you think youve been targeted:

  • Stop any transactions immediately

  • Notify your bank or card issuer

  • Report the incident to authorities such as the FTC

Apple Pay are spreading because theyre simple, convincing, and effective.

The most important defense is slowing down. If a message creates urgency or fear, thats often the first sign something isnt right.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall (Campaign No. 26V204000) covers certain 20212023 Lincoln Navigator and Ford Expedition SUVs, along with 20222023 Ford Super Duty trucks, including F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550,and F-600 models.

The issue stems from windshield wiper arms that may break, preventing the wipers from functioning properly. If the wipers fail during rain, snow, or other adverse conditions, drivers could experience reduced visibility, increasing the likelihood of an accident.

What to do

Ford dealers will inspect and replace the wiper arms as needed at no cost to owners. The company plans to begin notifying affected customers about the safety risk starting April 13, 2026. A second notification will be sent once replacement parts and the full remedy are available.

Owners can check whether their vehicle is included by searching their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the NHTSA website, where recall information became available on April 1.
