IMF Video:

Saudi Arabia experienced robust non-oil growth of 3.8% in 2023, driven mostly by private consumption and investment. Still, the economy contracted by 0.8%, reflecting lower oil output and voluntary oil production cuts. World Economic Forum Video: Global Future Council on Clean Air: City Solutions
Clean air is essential for our health, yet millions of people around the world are affected by air pollution each year, leading to premature deaths and severe health issues. Vulnerable groups, such as children, the elderly, and those with chronic diseases, are especially at risk. Cities can address multiple challenges by focusing on clean air initiatives, and significant advances have been made over the past decade in monitoring technology, public awareness, and solutions like electric vehicles, clean energy, and air quality policies. Now more than ever, it’s crucial for cities, governments, businesses, and citizens to join forces and expand these efforts.

World Economic Forum Video: Climate Change Disrupts Air Travel & Brazil Tops G20 in Renewables | WEF | Top Stories of the Week
This week's top stories of the week include:
0:15 Climate change disrupts air travel – As global warming changes the climate, conditions for air travel are changing too. In a survey of more than 50 airports in Latin America and the Caribbean, nearly all said they already face adverse climate change impacts. Including a greater risk of flooding more storms and hurricanes and higher air temperatures, which make takeoffs more difficult. These issues can lead to flight cancellations and steep costs.
2:24 Brazil tops G20 in renewable energy – Brazil generated 89% of its electricity from renewables in 2023. A massive 60% came from hydropower and 21% from its rapidly growing wind and solar sector. Brazil’s renewables share puts it far ahead of the rest of the G20.
4:15 Youth unemployment at a 15-year low – The labour market for people aged 15-24 has recovered following the pandemic and it’s on an upward trajectory says the International Labour Organization. The global youth unemployment rate now stands at 13%. Which means 65 million young people are out of work. That might sound a lot but it’s the lowest figure since the turn of the millennium.
6:16 Britain’s electricity superhighway – Investment in clean energy must triple globally by 2030 to keep the world on track to hit net zero by 2050. The UK is installing a new 2GW cable to transport renewable energy. It will run 436km under the sea from Scotland to Yorkshire in England. The cable will be the longest in Britain and is due to be ready by 2029. It will deliver offshore wind energy to up to 2 million households.
