IMF Video: Impact of Interest Rates on Emerging Markets | Analyze This!
Interest rates in advanced economies have increased at the fastest pace in 20 years and that’s made some emerging markets especially vulnerable. Watch our new Analyze This to learn why.

World Economic Forum Video: EU's Digital Markets Act & 2000 White Rhinos to Be Released | WEF | Top Stories of the Week
This week's top stories of the week include:
0:15 Africa is heating faster than the rest of the planet - It’s being hit with increasingly severe climate disasters as a result. Experts say this could lead to a rise in conflict across the continent. Africa was hit by 80 extreme weather events last year, including East Africa’s worst drought in 40 years, wildfires in Algera and severe flooding across West and Central Africa.
These disasters cost 5,000 lives and $8.5 billion in damages, according to a report by the World Meteorological Association.
1:58 What does the EU's Digital Markets Act mean for big tech? - The EU has unveiled a raft of new laws designed to make Europe’s tech sector more competitive. It means big tech firms will have to follow new rules. such as sharing data with rivals and removing barriers for smaller firms to get onto platforms and reach users. The Act defines 22 companies and services as ‘gatekeepers’. Gatekeepers include the 6 big tech firms, Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, Meta, Microsoft and ByteDance (which owns TikTok)
3:49 2000 white rhinos are being released in to the wild - The rhinos once belonged to the world’s largest rhino farm but it fell into financial difficulties and put the animals up for auction. There were no bids so South African NGO African Parks stepped in, buying the farm and the animals with the promise of rewilding them all. They’ll be released over the next 10 years in national parks across the continent.
5:08 Venice is charging a €5 entrance fee - All visitors over 14 will have to pay and book their tickets online in advance. The trial scheme will start in spring 2024. The fee will only apply to day-trippers on days when the city is exceptionally busy. Overnight visitors already pay a tourist tax through their accommodation. The aim is to prevent overcrowding which is placing a huge strain on the city.
