The recall affects 12 makes and model years
BMW is recalling 720,796 electric vehicles because a water pump connector may short circuit and sparka fire.
The recall affects a dozenmakes and model years among BMW'sall-electric cars, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Tuesday.
An improperly-sealed electricalconnector can cause water to enterfrom the waterpump and prompt a short circuit, NHTSA said.

Reports of firesraised concerns about the short circuit problem starting in March 2024, BMW said.
The recall adds to a string of EV recalls due to fire dangers, including the previously biggest from General Motors's when it recalled nearly 159,000 Chevrolet Bolts in 2020 and 2021because of battery fires.
What to do
At no charge, owners can go to dealers to inspect and replace the water pump and plug connector when necessary and install a protective shield.
BMW said it expects to send owners letters mailed October 4, 2024.
