COVID-19 Video: New questions over safety of AstraZeneca vaccine for young adults raised by UK - BBC News

Related Videos On: New questions over safety of AstraZeneca vaccine for young adults raised by UK - BBC News

The UK government has raised new questions about the safety of the AstraZeneca vaccine for young adults. The UK's leading health experts have issued new guidance following evidence that in extremely rare cases people who've had the vaccine have developed blood clots. The UK regulator, the MHRA, said the guidance was not proof the vaccine had caused the clots but it said the link was getting firmer. So from now on people in the UK aged between 18 and 29 will be offered an alternative to the Oxford-AstraZeneca jab. The regulator has insisted that the benefits of taking the AstraZeneca vaccine -- still far outweigh the risks for the vast majority of people. COVID-19 Video: UK extends emergency Covid powers despite opposition from some members of parliament - BBC News

Related Videos On: UK extends emergency Covid powers despite opposition from some members of parliament - BBC News

MPs have voted to extend emergency coronavirus powers in England until September despite a big rebellion by backbench Conservative MPs against the plan. The government has refused to rule out extending the wide-ranging powers again in October. The health secretary Matt Hancock told the commons he expected people would continue to wear masks long after restrictions are lifted and warned cases could rise again. Plans for so-called vaccine passports were raised by the prime minister, to allow people back into pubs and other hospitality and entertainment venues. Boris Johnson said the idea might only be viable once everybody in the UK had been offered a vaccine. Meanwhile European leaders have been meeting to discuss tightening export controls on vaccines as Europe faces a third wave of the pandemic.
