Medicine Video: Scientists Track ‘Doubling’ in Origin of Cancer Cells
At the beginning of this video, a breast epithelial cell is in the cell cycle stage of duplicating its genome. The bright points appearing in the cell’s nucleus indicate where DNA is being replicated. Then, the cell is exposed to a type of stress, and it doesn’t divide, as it normally should, but starts duplicating its genome again, as indicated by the bright points reappearing. #BasicScienceResearch #JohnsHopkins #CancerResearch #CancerCells https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/news/newsroom/news-releases/2024/05/scientists-track-doubling-in-origin-of-cancer-cells

Medicine Video: Evan Biringer: Energetic Boy Thought to Have the Flu Ends Up Needing Heart Transplant – Donate Life
For weeks, Gretchen and Jason Biringer thought their 7-year-old son, Evan, had the flu because the typically energetic boy was lethargic. When Evan’s nailbeds turned purple and he had trouble breathing, they took him to the local emergency room, and he was then transported via helicopter to Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. The family learned that Evan had biventricular heart failure and would need a heart transplant. During this difficult time, the care team at the Blalock-Taussig-Thomas Congenital Heart Center was very attentive, and listened to any concerns that the family had. Evan received a new heart, and the now 8-year-old is in school and enjoys playing soccer. #PediatricHeartTransplant #JohnsHopkinsChildrensCenter
