Play Video: Speaker Series N°9 – The Role of Research in Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence

Speaker Series N°9 will delve into the critical role that high-quality research plays in enhancing pandemic and epidemic intelligence, as well as informing public health decisions. The session will highlight findings from the recently published Research Prioritization for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence (https://www.who.int/publications/i/item/9789240094529), an initiative led by the WHO Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence, in collaboration with Charité, GloPID-R, the WHO Science Division, and the Wellcome Trust. This global effort brought together researchers, public health experts, and decision-makers to identify and prioritize 23 key research areas crucial for effective public health surveillance. The session will explore the outcomes and lessons from this research prioritization process, showcase examples of impactful research in pandemic intelligence, and discuss how these insights enhance surveillance and inform decision-making. Key questions to be addressed include: · How can researchers align with public health needs and strengthen disease surveillance? · How can funding bodies coordinate to address fragmentation and ensure targeted support? · How can research findings be effectively integrated into decision-making? Our invited speakers —researchers, funders, and decision-makers —will share insights and discuss the way forward. Join us for an engaging session on strengthening pandemic preparedness through prioritized research. The Speaker Series is co-hosted by the WHO Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence (https://pandemichub.who.int/) and the Charité Center for Global Health (https://globalhealth.charite.de/en/).

Alanna Craig was determined to make the most of her senior year soccer season at The Johns Hopkins University. But recurring knee pain was keeping her on the sideline. That brought her to the sports medicine experts at Johns Hopkins Rehabilitation Network. Her team of physical therapists and her primary care sports medicine physician, Dr. Mo Emam, helped her address the cause of her knee pain and regain strength to comfortably run. After exhausting all non-surgical approaches, Dr. Emam performed a hydrodissection of her knee, which gave her more mobility and more range of motion. Both leading up to and after the procedure, Alanna worked with physical therapists to get back to full strength and back on the field. #kneepain #johnshopkins #hydrodissection For more information about the variety of sports medicine experts at Johns Hopkins Rehabilitation Network, visit https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/sportsmedicine.
