US Politics Video: 'Nightmare situation for Facebook': What the Trump ruling means
CNN's Donie O'Sullivan says that the Facebook Advisory Board's decision that Facebook can keep blocking former President Donald Trump from using its platform creates a nightmare situation for the social media giant.
The landmark move affirms the company's decision to suspend Trump in January after the US Capitol riots. However, the board said Facebook must review the decision within six months.
"Within six months of this decision, Facebook must reexamine the arbitrary penalty it imposed on January 7 and decide the appropriate penalty," the board wrote in its decision. "This penalty must be based on the gravity of the violation and the prospect of future harm. It must also be consistent with Facebook's rules for severe violations, which must, in turn, be clear, necessary and proportionate."
The board also criticized Facebook for having made the suspension indefinite. "In applying a vague, standardless penalty and then referring this case to the Board to resolve, Facebook seeks to avoid its responsibilities," the decision said.

As the population of Ghana’s capital expanded in the late 19th century, residents recreated the communal homes they knew from the countryside — an architectural template that endured for more than 100 years. These mini-complexes of houses, grouped around shaded courtyards set back from the street, were the building blocks of modern Accra, keeping together extended families who migrated to the city from rural areas. As international-style apartments and villas for nuclear families become the preferred housing type over time, the compound houses are increasingly being divided into smaller, tighter rooms, mixing strangers together and becoming places for poorer tenants with few options. No one wants to preserve crowded conditions. But in some ways, the community focus and architecture of the compound house could provide inspiration for future housing in Ghana.
