Dr. Karen Frostig will share her experience as the granddaughter of Holocaust victims. Musicians Ms. Shoshanna Shattenkirk, Professor Renee Jolles, Mr. Michael Shaham (grandson of Holocaust survivors) will perform. Cantor Nissim Saal will recite memorial prayers. The United Nations Holocaust Memorial Ceremony marking the 2023 International Day of Commemoration in memory of the victims of the Holocaust is organized by the United Nations Department of Global Communications. The theme “Home and Belonging” highlights the humanity of the Holocaust victims and survivors, who had their home and sense of belonging ripped from them by the perpetrators of the Holocaust. The violence of exclusion began with disinformation and hate speech that lent support to systemic injustice and discrimination, and marginalization and ended with genocidal killing. 'Why is Trump Allowed Back on Facebook, and Will He Return?'
The company that owns Facebook and Instagram has said former President Donald Trump’s risk to public safety has significantly decreased in the last two years, and that he’ll be allowed back on the platforms.
Trump was kicked off Meta’s social media platforms after his followers stormed the Capitol in January 2021, and the company declared him a risk, but, one that they would re-assess after two years.
The two years are up, and the former president will get his accounts back in the coming weeks.
But before he’s allowed back on the platforms, Meta have said they’ll be working to roll out new rules that could limit the former president’s actions.
This could include blocking certain posts, restricting other users from sharing them, and stopping them from appearing on other people’s feeds, as well as not allowing him to run ads.
In previous campaigns, Trump has spent hundreds of millions on targetted Facebook ads.
In the aftermath of January 6th, 2021, Trump was also banned from Twitter, YouTube and Snapchat too, causing him to establish his own social media site - Truth Social.
According to US campaign group Media Matters, nearly half of the posts on his Truth Social account in the weeks after the midterm elections pushed baseless election fraud claims or amplified QAnon accounts or content.
If Trump uses Facebook and Instagram in the same way, half of his posts should be blocked or restricted.
With this in mind, plus the success of his own social media platform being down to his activity on it - it’s uncertain whether he’ll turn his back on Truth Social to return to Facebook.

The man filming this video has been charged with assaulting former UK health secretary Matt Hancock on the tube.

Hancock is understood to have been unhurt after the alleged attack on Tuesday which began at Westminster station, and continued on the Underground.
The 44-year-old MP for West Suffolk was health secretary when the coronavirus pandemic struck. He was a key figure in the lockdown restrictions and vaccine rollout that followed, but resigned from his cabinet post in June 2021 after pictures of him having an affair with his former aide in his office - breaking guidance about mixing with other households - were leaked.
The alleged attacker will appear in court next month, charged with common assault and two public order offences.

Global Video: Mummering: Newfoundland's unique holiday tradition comes roaring back
This past weekend in St. John’s Newfoundland, hundreds of people hit the streets for the Atlantic province’s annual Mummers Parade.
As part of this festive tradition, people gather up old clothes that have been lying around the house –tablecloths and oversized shirts are a favourite – and assemble a “mummer’s rig” or costume.
Originally, mummering was a house-visiting tradition. It first appeared in Newfoundland and Labrador in the 1800’s, though the practice dates back much further than that. Mummers would visit their neighbours in disguise, looking for beer and a bite to eat.

Global Video: Breast cancer survivors say issues like early menopause, loss of identity often overlooked
Just days ahead of her 40th birthday, Hilary Boswell received a terrifying diagnosis – She had breast cancer.
She received a unilateral mastectomy, a surgery she didn’t necessarily want but felt pressured into by her surgeon. It left her with one breast and, she says, it changed the way she saw herself.
“I remember struggling so much with the idea of walking around with one boob,” she said. “I just really felt like I knew what I wanted… and yeah, I wish I had done it, “ she added, referring to a double mastectomy.
Like Boswell, other cancer survivors sometimes struggle to accept the changes brought on by surgery or chemotherapy – such as early menopause, or loss of libido. And they don’t always get the support they need.
As Alyssa Julie reports in our series Against all Odds, some survivors and experts are asking health professionals to shed more light on the impact of a cancer diagnosis on the body and the mind.

Global Video: Outside the margins: BIPOC and LGBTQ2 breast cancer patients rewrite the narrative
People from racialized and 2SLGBTQQIA+ communities are underrepresented in the institution of cancer care, and they’re slipping through the cracks because of it.
“I really felt like my issues didn’t matter. And I didn’t feel confident in making a decision about a life-changing surgery because I didn’t see myself represented,” said Michelle Audoin, the founder of Uncovered: A Breast Recognition Project. “The fact that I didn’t see myself in this space and my questions weren’t being addressed, it led to depression.”
For breast cancer, a reproductive cancer, the disparity can be especially apparent for the latter group. One thing is clear: it’s time to rewrite the narrative of what a typical cancer survivor looks like.
To do so, members of the community across Canada are fighting against these gaps, from diversifying what breast cancer looks like to writing a graphic memoir.

Global Video: "It's part of everybody's history": CNE's post-pandemic return revives multi-generational traditions
The Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) is back in Toronto after a two-year pandemic hiatus, and with its return, small businesses that struggled with the closure are back.
With revenue going from 100 to 0 when the Exhibition closed for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, being back at the CNE this year is extra-special for patrons and especially the small family businesses passed down from generation to generation.
“As much as this is a generational business for me and a family business, it’s also something that is an experience that generations have gone to the CNE and enjoyed,” said Sam Scanga, owner of several food booths at the CNE he runs with his family, referring to attendees’ love of his Primo Spaghetti 1.99. "It's part of everybody's history."
