The theme of the 78th session of the General Assembly, including the general debate, will be:
"Rebuilding trust and reigniting global solidarity: Accelerating action on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals towards peace, prosperity, progress and sustainability for all."
This theme encompasses the recognition that we are at a crossroads in history and that the path ahead will be decisive in determining not only our future, but that of generations to come. Accordingly, we must work creatively to preserve and to further strengthen multilateralism, by re-dedicating ourselves to upholding and defending its centerpiece, the Charter of the United Nations. Therefore, it is imperative that we prioritize rebuilding trust and reigniting meaningful global solidarity by using our collective power and forge ahead, with courage and determination, to do all that we can humanly do to deliver the future we want, by regaining the lost momentum and accelerating action towards sustainable development, in order to achieve Peace, Prosperity, Progress and Sustainability for all our People.

An investigation by BBC Newsnight has found that groups described as “far right” have organised or attended 50 protests since the start of the year, mostly focussed on UK hotel accommodation for asylum seekers.
The groups, who operate across the country, have been accused of infiltrating legitimate community organised protests in a bid to spread what has been described as their “extreme ideology”.
Their members include individuals who have engaged in openly racist behaviour and who have expressed admiration for Adolf Hitler.

ODN Video: Kim Jong Un and The Walrus: Russia Visit Propaganda Film Released
Kim Jong Un’s trip to Russia to meet Vladimir Putin has been turned into a propaganda film.
North Korean TV released the 90 minute documentary on Wednesday, a few days after Kim Jong Un returned from Russia.
The North Korean leader appeared greatly entertained by a walrus doing sit-ups.
There were also many shots of the dictator’s famed armoured train, which is rumoured to be bomb proof, without sacrificing luxury touches on the inside.
The film also showed the moment Putin invited Jong Un to take a seat in his armoured car. Parts of the car are blurred, likely for security reasons. Donald Trump famously tried to show Kim Jong Un the inside of ‘The Beast’ in 2018, but Secret Service agents thought it wasn’t such a great idea, and ushered everyone away.
Kim Jong Un’s ‘notepad guy’ was seen writing the dictator’s every word down, as he inspected military equipment, the official’s job is to follow the ‘Supreme Leader’ around to make sure all his ‘wise thoughts’ recorded verbatim.
The film also featured Kim Jong Un and Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu swapping gifts, including a hat and a sword.
And of course, when Kim Jong Un’s train finally arrived back in North Korea, ‘the crowd went wild’.

Global Video: Maui wildfires: Wind, drought and invasive grass created perfect storm for devastating fires
Punishing winds, a severe drought and invasive grass created the perfect conditions for the devastating fires on Maui that have so far killed at least 67 people, experts say.
The exact cause of the fires is yet to be determined but the National Weather Service had issued warnings for high winds and dry weather as Hurricane Dora brushed south of Hawaii.
Craig Clements, a meteorology professor at San Jose State University, said Maui had already been in a severe drought, putting it at risk for fires. He said the steep mountains overlooking the hard-hit town of Lahain also exacerbated the high wind conditions, sending them into populated areas at high speed.
Alyssa Julie has more on how conditions fanned the flames of the fires.

Global Video: King Charles coronation: Crown jewels, centuries-old traditions and what it all means
The coronation of King Charles III will be the first time a King of England has his coronation televised and only the second-ever British monarch to do so after Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.
It’s a ceremony full of pomp and circumstance, cloaked in mystery and steeped in centuries-old traditions…that comes from a healthy dose of historical pettiness and happenstance.
During the ceremony, the monarch will be presented with the crown jewels, almost all of which were destroyed, altered, or lost to time over the often-tumultuous centuries of British history.
While the crown is the centrepiece of the regalia – what do sceptres, swords and a Scottish stone have to do with being anointed to the British throne?
Global News explains.

When Russia invaded Ukraine just over a year ago, the question was raised if China could be watching what happened to determine if it could launch its own invasion of the independent island nation of Taiwan.
For years, Chinese President Xi Jinping has said Taiwan would some day reunify with China but outside of military exercises near the island, there has yet to be actual movement that has signified if Beijing would take the next step and try to invade.
Sean Previl takes a look at the history of the country, the political conditions it currently faces and what could happen if China did take that step.

Global Video: Mummering: Newfoundland's unique holiday tradition comes roaring back
This past weekend in St. John’s Newfoundland, hundreds of people hit the streets for the Atlantic province’s annual Mummers Parade.
As part of this festive tradition, people gather up old clothes that have been lying around the house –tablecloths and oversized shirts are a favourite – and assemble a “mummer’s rig” or costume.
