Tips To Swiftly Recover From Food Poisoning

You have a high chance of contracting food poisoning after eating undercooked or improperly stored foods. Once you do, there’s no way of stopping it; all you can do is be patient and focus on recovery.

On average, food poisoning can last between a day to a week, but you want to start feeling better right away. So, here are a couple of tips you should know to swiftly recover from food poisoning. Have a bucket, a water bottle, and extra blankets nearby; you’re going to need them.

Stay Hydrated

When you contract food poisoning, a tip to swiftly recover is by staying hydrated. When you’re constantly making trips to the bathroom, your body loses fluids, so it’s important to replenish them.

In between your bathroom trips, drink plenty of water. However, keep your sips relatively small as ingesting too much liquid too quickly can trigger your stomach. Take sips every 10 to 15 minutes to stay hydrated and prevent excessive bathroom visits.

Eat Bland and Easy Foods

When your stomach and intestines are irritated, you want to eat foods that are easy to digest. Stick to foods such as:

  • Bananas
  • Well-cooked rice
  • Pureed soups
  • Toast
  • Saltine crackers

Try to avoid dairy, fatty foods, spicy foods, and caffeine. These can quickly irritate your stomach further and make your recovery last longer. It’s important to follow a post-poisoning diet to recover quickly.

Get Lots of Rest

The one thing you should focus on the most is getting enough rest. With your body processing so much, you’re going to feel exhausted. You’ll potentially feel other symptoms such as headaches, fevers, and muscle aches.

Don’t do anything too strenuous, and focus on allowing your body to rest. Take plenty of naps, do some light reading, sit in a warm bath, and watch your favorite TV show. It’ll help your recovery go by quicker.

Stay Out of the Sun

Did you know the sun can hinder your recovery? Exposing yourself to the heat and sun can make you more dehydrated and cause your body to overwork itself. Because it’s working to fight an infection, you also don’t want it to go overboard by trying to keep you cool.

Let Your Body Process It

Trying to stop your body from experiencing more pain and discomfort can be tempting. However, the last thing you want is to prevent your body from trying to remove bacteria and contaminated food from your gut. So, let your body go through the motions, and you’ll recover faster.

Food poisoning is never a fun experience to endure. Remember to stay patient and sleep whenever you can; it will not only make the time go by faster but also allow your body to focus on recovery.

Play Video: One Year since October 7 Attacks - UN Chief Message | United Nations

Video message by António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, to mark one year since October 7 attacks. --------------------------- Today marks one year since the horrific events of October 7th when Hamas launched a large-scale terror attack in Israel killing over 1,250 Israelis and foreign nationals, including children and women. More than 250 people were abducted and taken to Gaza, including many women and children. The October 7th attack scarred souls – and on this day we remember all those who were brutally killed and suffered unspeakable violence – including sexual violence – as they were simply living their lives. This is a day for the global community to repeat in the loudest voice our utter condemnation of the abhorrent acts of Hamas, including the taking of hostages. Over the course of the past year, I have met with the families of hostages…learned more about the lives, hopes and dreams of their loved ones … and shared in their anguish and pain. I cannot imagine the torture they are forced to endure every day. I demand once again the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages. Until then, Hamas must allow the International Committee of the Red Cross to visit those hostages. The 7th of October is naturally a day to focus on the events of that awful day. I express my solidarity with all the victims and their loved ones. Since October 7th, a wave of shocking violence and bloodshed has erupted. The war that has followed the terrible attacks of one year ago continues to shatter lives and inflict profound human suffering for Palestinians in Gaza, and now the people of Lebanon. I have spoken out about this often and clearly. It is time for the release of the hostages. Time to silence the guns. Time to stop the suffering that has engulfed the region. Time for peace, international law and justice. The United Nations is fully committed to achieving those goals. In the midst of so much bloodshed and division, we must hold on to hope. Let us honour the memory of the victims, reunite families and end the suffering and violence in the whole Middle East. And let us never stop working for a lasting solution to the conflict where Israel, Palestine and all other countries of the region can finally live in peace and dignity and with respect for one another.

Noon briefing by Stéphane Dujarric, Spokesperson for the Secretary-General. Highlights: - Middle East - Lebanon/Humanitarian - Lebanon - West Bank - Occupied Palestinian Territory - Haiti - Deputy Secretary-General/Lesotho - Security Council - Democratic Republic of the Congo - Food Price Index - Chagos Islands - Resident Coordinator in Peru - International Days Middle East The Secretary-General is very concerned about the increasing toll on civilians that we are seeing across the immediate region. Beirut residential areas were once again subjected to intense overnight Israeli airstrikes, apparently injuring rescue workers. Also, strikes continued unabated in other parts of Lebanon. The toll on civilians from this campaign is totally unacceptable. All parties must do whatever they can to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure and ensure that civilians are never put in harm’s way. The UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Jeannine Hennis-Plasschaert persists with her intensive political engagements, while the UN country team is working closely with the Lebanese Government to meet spiraling humanitarian needs. Lebanon/humanitarian Given the worsening humanitarian needs, Imran Riza the UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Lebanon, today announced an additional $2 million from the Lebanon Humanitarian Fund to address the deteriorating situation, bringing the total allocation to $12 million so far. This comes alongside a previous $10 million Central Emergency Response Fund allocated very recently. Meanwhile on the health front, the World Health Organization announced today that the first flight with WHO medical supplies – enough to treat tens of thousands of injured people – has arrived in Beirut. More flights are planned for today and in the coming days. This all comes as the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs remains concerned about the safety and well-being of civilians as the country experiences a surge in airstrikes and displacement orders. There were new orders given by the Israelis in the south, for areas above the Litani River and areas such as El-Buss - which hosts a Palestinian refugee camp – that forced families to flee from areas previously considered safer. Civilians on both sides of the Blue Line in Lebanon and in Israel, must be allowed to live in peace and tranquillity. Also, the International Organization for Migration tell us that many of Lebanon's 177,000 migrants, including many female migrant domestic workers, have also been now forced to flee in search of safety but face limited shelter options. Lebanon UNIFIL says that within their area of operations, they still observe intense airstrikes and heavy clashes. Significant exchanges of fire are occurring in Sector West, particularly Marun ar Ras, Yaroun and Bint Jbeil and in Sector East, focusing on the Khiam, Kafer Kila and El Adeisse areas. UNIFIL peacekeepers continue to remain in position despite the dangerous environment, while the intensity of fighting hampers their movement and ability to undertake the full range of their mandated tasks. As Mr. Lacroix told you yesterday, the safety and security of our peacekeepers is a paramount priority and it is a shared responsibility for all parties. The Mission reiterates its call, both for an immediate de-escalation and for the parties to immediately return to a cessation of hostilities and the full implementation of Security Council Resolution 1701.

It came as Israeli forces crossed the border into Lebanon telling people across the south to evacuate. So far there has been no fighting between Israeli forces and Hezbollah, but two waves of Iranian missiles have been launched into central and southern Israel. It's not known how many struck targets on the ground. Meanwhile Israeli airstrikes have struck across Lebanon all day, including in Beirut, and there has also been a suspected terror attack in Tel Aviv with at least six reported dead and nine injured. There have also been attacks in Gaza, Syria and the Red Sea. The fighting that blew up almost a year ago is on the verge of becoming a full-blown regional war. ------- Get more news at our site - https://www.channel4.com/news/ Follow us: TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@c4news Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/channel4news/ Twitter - https://twitter.com/Channel4News Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/Channel4News/
