House Republicans advance a bill that would write into law a new definition of antisemitism. A final vote will be later this week. House Democrats are advocating for a different bill to increase funding for the Education Department and Justice Department’s Office for Civil Rights. Education Secretary Miguel Cardona is asked about the campus protests as he testifies before a Senate Appropriations Subcommittee. He is also questioned about the troubled updates to the federal college financial aid form FAFSA. House Democratic leaders say they will not allow a motion to vacate to remove Speaker Johnson to succeed, and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) brings it up, they will vote to table, or kill it. The Democratic leaders write, “At this moment … the time has come to turn the page on this chapter of Pro-Putin Republican obstruction." The judge in Donald Trump’s hush money criminal trial holds the former President in contempt for violating a gag order nine times with online posts attacking potential jurors and witnesses. The judge fines him $9,000 and warns that more violations could result in jail time. House passes a bill to remove the gray wolf from the Endangered Species Act. Dance and recording artist twigs testifies before a Senate Judiciary Subcommittee about proposed bill to protect her and others from generative artificial intelligence copying and marketing their likenesses. Her primary focus is on the way the Nixon administration fought and ended the Vietnam War. Early in the book, Hofstra University professor Eisenberg quotes President Nixon's predecessor, Lyndon Johnson, during his 1964 election campaign: "We are not about to send American boys nine or ten thousand miles away from home to do what Asian boys ought to be doing for themselves." However, the U.S. left Vietnam permanently in 1975 and, at the end, the number of U.S. military personnel killed in the war was 58,098.
