Some people’s entire love language is gift-giving. They know exactly what to buy for the people in their life and always elicit a great reaction from them. For others, gift-giving is a lot harder. Many of us struggle with knowing how much to spend and what to buy for the people in our lives. Keep reading to learn what to do when you don’t know how to buy gifts so you can still get something nice for your loved ones.
Start With a Budget
The first step to buying presents is deciding how much you want to spend. Everyone may have agreed on a set limit if this is for a group gift exchange at work or with extended family. Other times, you must set a budget yourself. You can set a limit for each gift or a total amount if you're buying multiple gifts. Setting a budget for a group of gifts gives you more flexibility, but it’s also easier to overspend that way. Know your spending habits and choose the proper budget for your financial situation. Write down your budget limit to hold yourself accountable.
Consider Their Interests
Once you know how much you can spend, start considering gift ideas. If you’re buying for someone you don’t know very well, like a distant cousin or co-worker, try to learn about their interests so you can get them a more personal gift. This can include light research like asking people closer to them or looking up their social media to see if they share anything about their interests. For example, they may post a lot of pictures of crafts they like to make. Take that information and start researching gift ideas that will impress crafters. Once you know what they love, buying them a present is much easier.
Always Include a Gift Receipt
No matter how much you try to learn about a person or tailor your gift to their interests, there’s always a chance that they won’t like or already have what you’ve given them. While this can feel defeating since you’ve spent time trying to pick out something nice, don’t let it affect you too deeply. Include a gift receipt with the gift so they can make the appropriate exchange and remind yourself that they’re still getting something they like, even if it’s in a more roundabout way.
Knowing what to do when you don’t know how to buy gifts is hard. While creating a budget and researching your intended recipient isn’t the only option, it is an excellent way to ensure you don’t overspend and have a high chance of buying them something they’ll like. If this person is a familiar figure in your life, keep notes about them and their likes, so you’re prepared for the holiday season. Eventually, you’ll be able to pick out gifts with greater ease.
Noon Briefing by Stéphane Dujarric, Spokesperson for the Secretary-General.

MIDDLE EAST
The Secretary-General addressed the Security Council on the Middle East this morning and he said that recent days have seen a perilous escalation – in words and deeds. One miscalculation, one miscommunication, one mistake, could lead to the unthinkable – a full-scale regional conflict that would be devastating for all involved – and for the rest of the world, he said. The Secretary-General said that the international community must work together to prevent any actions that could push the entire Middle East over the edge, with a devastating impact on civilians.
Mr. Guterres said that ending the hostilities in Gaza would significantly defuse tensions across the region and he reiterated his calls for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire and the immediate release of all hostages held in Gaza.
And he said that the humanitarian situation in Gaza, he said that apparent progress in one area is often cancelled out by delays and restrictions elsewhere. The full remarks were shared with you.
OCCUPIED PALESTINIAN TERRITORY
Also I have an update for you on the situation on the Occupied Palestinian Territory. The World Food Programme reported that this week, two of the agency’s convoys crossed into Gaza from Ashdod Port, and they came into Gaza via the Kerem Shalom border crossing point. The first convoy on Tuesday was eight trucks, followed by a second convoy on Wednesday with seven trucks. In total, they delivered 374 metric tonnes of wheat flour. WFP says that 14 additional trucks are being loaded today and we hope they will depart soon.
As part of the emergency response, the agency has shipped some 2,700 metric tonnes of wheat flour to Ashdod Port in southern Israel. The World Food Programme says the sustained use of that port – as well as a smoother movement of convoys via Kerem Shalom into Gaza – will notably reduce the waiting time for cargo to enter the Gaza Strip.
The World Food Programme also reported today that this week, three of its convoys – 25 trucks in total – crossed into northern Gaza via the Erez crossing – and that’s for the first time. The convoys – which moved on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday – brought in more than 400 metric tonnes of food and wheat flour, that will help nearly 80,000 people.
The agency warns that the only way to halt famine is through daily deliveries of food supplies. This requires conditions that allow humanitarian staff and supplies to move freely – and the people in need to access assistance safely.
Meanwhile, Sigrid Kaag, our Senior Humanitarian and Reconstruction Coordinator for Gaza, has just concluded yet another visit to the Gaza Strip. While there, she went to Khan Younis where she witnessed the war’s impact on Palestinian civilians firsthand. While there, Ms. Kaag visited a maternity ward in an International Medical Corps field hospital, as well as the Nasser Medical complex. She spoke with the director and medical staff at Nasser about the challenges of securing entry and supplies of urgently needed medical items.
And a short time ago, Ms. Kaag went to Tel Aviv following her visit to Gaza and just concluded a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as well as other Israeli cabinet officials.
U.N.R.W.A.
And just for the record you will have seen that Philippe Lazzarini, the Commissioner General of the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), told the Security Council yesterday that six months of relentless bombardment and a merciless siege have transformed Gaza beyond recognition.
He said that in the north, infants and young children have begun to die of malnutrition and dehydration. Across the border, food and clean water wait, he added, but UNRWA has been denied permission to deliver this aid and save lives.
Mr. Lazzarini reminded Council members that the Agency exists because a political solution does not; it exists in lieu of a State that can deliver critical public services.
His remarks were shared with you.

Qatar is reassessing its role as a mediator between Israel and Hamas, the country's prime minister has said.
Qatar has had a key role - along with Egypt and the US - in trying to secure a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas and the release of hostages.
But Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani said Doha had been exploited and abused and was being undermined by those trying to score political points.
He also said the current peace talks were in a "delicate phase".

BBC News Video: Deadly Africa heat caused by climate change, scientists say | BBC News
A deadly heatwave in West Africa and the Sahel was "impossible" without human-induced climate change, scientists say.
Temperatures soared above 48C in Mali last month with one hospital linking hundreds of deaths to the extreme heat.
In Bamako, the capital of Mali, the Gabriel Toure Hospital said it recorded 102 deaths in the first days of April.
Researchers say human activities like burning fossil fuels made temperatures up to 1.4C hotter than normal.

ODN Video: New Combat Footage Shows How Israel-Hamas War is Changing
New footage released by both Hamas and the Israel Defense Forces show the conflict is shifting.
The militant group continues to release highly-edited clips, which it claims shows its fighters in action in northern and central Gaza.
But the skirmishes shown are small in scale, with Hamas keeping their distance from Israeli forces, using sniper rifles, short-range missiles and mortars.
Meanwhile, the number of videos showing Israeli ground operations in the Gaza Strip is decreasing as its military withdraws large numbers of troops from frontline combat.
Instead, most new videos show the Israeli Air Force striking ‘terrorist infrastructure’ inside the territory.
There are more videos showing Israeli soldiers conducting nighttime raids in the West Bank.
And far more clips showing large Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon - a theatre of the war that is growing in importance.
The militant group Hezbollah, which wields significant power in Lebanon, is closely linked with Iran.
Israel’s increased aggression against Hezbollah may be part of its response to Iran’s recent missile attacks, as fears grow that the Israel-Hamas war may spill over into a wider regional conflict.

ODN Video: What Is Cloud Seeding and Did it Cause The Dubai Floods?
Dubai experienced unprecedented rainfall on Tuesday, causing widespread chaos.
Schools were shut down, flights were cancelled, and cars had to be abandoned.
The country -faced 14cm (5.6 inches) of rain, leaving much of the city underwater.
Some have speculated that the heavy rain might have been triggered by "cloud seeding”.
But what is cloud seeding?
Cloud seeding is a method where existing clouds are manipulated to produce more rainfall.
Aircraft release small particles into clouds, aiding the condensation of water vapour and resulting in increased rainfall.
Most operations use a compound called silver iodide, which exists naturally in the environment and has no known harmful effects.
The United Arab Emirates has been using cloud seeding in recent decades to alleviate water shortages. Subscribe here: http://bit.ly/ODNsubs

ODN Video: Georgian MP PUNCHED During Debate on Controversial Law
This is the moment chaos erupted in the Georgian parliament building.
Mamuka Mdinaradze, head of the Georgian Dream Party faction, was punched in the face by Alexander Elisashvili of the rival Citizens party.
Elisashvili accused him of being ‘pro-Russian’ during a debate on a controversial law, which will require media and non-commercial organisations who receive funding from abroad to register as foreign agents.
Opponents say the bill is inspired by similar authoritarian laws in Russia, and would alienate news media critical of the Kremlin.
Massive protests have taken place outside Tbilisi’s parliament.
Demonstrators believe that this law aligns their nation with Russia and takes it away from their aspirations of joining the European Union, a claim that EU and US leaders have echoed.
The Georgian government have rejected the comparison with Russian legislation.
But this is not the first time they have faced similar protests from opponents.
They attempted to pass the same bill last year, but it was shelved amid violent demonstrations.
According to a 2023 poll, over 80% of Georgians support joining the EU.
