Top Ways You Can Boost Your Immune System

If you want to be happy and healthy, there are many things you can do. There are numerous diets and exercise regimens out there. However, the best thing you can do to have a happy, healthy body is to keep your body safe from disease and viral infections. Boosting your immunity is key to building healthy lifestyle habits. Learn some of the top ways to boost your immune system here.

Get Any Vaccines

In a post-COVID-19 world, it’s easy to sit on your laurels. If you can survive COVID-19, you can survive most things, right? It’s important to understand that vaccines are a great way to protect yourself from harmful illnesses and diseases. Your immune system is incredibly efficient, but vaccines train it to be even more so, and it can fight off and even learn to recognize certain diseases from a mile away. It’s also much safer to acclimate your antibodies to a disease via vaccination than through infection, which can take you out of commission or harm your health.

Maintain a Healthy Diet

A healthy diet is important for any immune system. Make sure you enjoy your legumes, fruits, veggies, and whole grains. Also, don’t leave out your micronutrients, which can help your immune system’s homeostasis. You can easily find them in pill form over the counter at your local pharmacy, or you could get stronger versions prescribed by your doctor. Vitamin C promotes healthy teeth and gums. Vitamin A maintains soft tissue, mucous membranes, and healthy skin. Vitamin B12 is important for metabolism and maintains the central nervous system. Finally, vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium.

Don’t Forget To Exercise

Exercise is the most important part of this list. Physical activity helps you destress and build muscle, but it’s also an important way to boost your immune system. It mobilizes immune cells and circulates them throughout the body. In a way, this circulation of immune cell movement acts as a form of surveillance, which monitors the process of your immune system, allowing it to detect and react to viral infections rapidly.

If you do these three things, you’ll soon have a strong immune system!

Since the 1950s, plastic has become so ubiquitous that it's now used in everything from children’s toys and medical equipment to beauty products and airplanes. And while plastic was once hailed as a miracle product, we now know the damage plastic pollution does to ecosystems, the climate, human health and the economy. Central to ending plastic pollution is the elimination of unnecessary plastic, the redesign of products – including packaging – so they can be more easily reused, repaired and recycled, and switching to non-plastic substitutes that help protect the environment, human health, and our economy.  So, it's time to write a new story and #beatplasticpollution! Join us and take action: http://www.unep.org/beatplasticpollution Video produced by UN Environment Programme (UNEP).

Scottish National Party leader Humza Yousaf quits, triggering a search for a successor and new first minister. He said he had "underestimated" the level of hurt after ending a power-sharing deal with the Scottish Greens last week. The deal which brought Green ministers into government for the first time anywhere in the UK was designed to last until the next Scottish Parliament election in 2026 but has been scrapped within three years. The tensions between the parties were obvious and increasing, not least following the recent decision to drop some key climate change targets. Mr Yousaf says he will stay on as first minister until the SNP chooses his replacement. For the last 10 days, thousands of Georgians - many in their late teens and early 20s - have been bringing the traffic of the capital, Tbilisi, to a standstill. They demand that the government scrap plans to introduce a controversial bill - dubbed the "foreign agent" law - many say is inspired by authoritarian legislation neighbouring Russia uses to crush dissent. Under the bill proposed by the ruling Georgian Dream party, NGOs and independent media that receive more than 20% of their funding from foreign donors would have to register as organisations "bearing the interests of a foreign power". They would also be monitored by the Justice Ministry and could be forced to share sensitive information - or face hefty fines of up to 25,000 GEL ($9,400; £7,500). Haiti Gang Leader Makes Dark Threat Against New Interim Government
Play Video: Haiti Gang Leader Makes Dark Threat Against New Interim Government

This is the new normal in Haiti. As politicians gather at the country’s National Palace for the swearing in of a new transitional council, sporadic gunfire is heard nearby. There are a few nervous faces, but no-one seems especially concerned. The ceremony was being held to mark a new beginning for the country after the resignation of unpopular Prime Minister Ariel Henry on Thursday, but much of the event had to be held behind closed doors, because the security situation in the capital is so unpredictable. Gangs still control around 80% of Port-au-prince, and have previously launched attacks on the National Palace, police stations and the country’s main airport. One of the key aims of the gangs, led by Jimmy "Barbeque" Cherizier, was to topple Ariel Henry’s government. But Henry’s departure seems unlikely to end the violence, with Cherizier warning the new council members to ‘brace’ themselves earlier in the week. They want to be a part of any new government. Led by Henry’s former finance minister, Michel Patrick Boisvert, the new council will seek to bring order back to the embattled Caribbean nation - but it’s a huge task. Half of the population is struggling to feed itself, according to the world food programme, there is a spiralling economic crisis, and the security services here are desperately short of manpower and equipment. The US has said its helping the Haitian police to regain control. The council has a mandate until early 2026, by which time a new, democratically elected president will need to be installed. But it seems certain that the gangs will try to derail that process, and at the moment, no one knows how to stop them. According to the United Nations, more than 1,500 people were killed and 800 injured in the first three months of 2024. #haiti #portauprince #haitigangs Subscribe here: http://bit.ly/ODNsubs TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@ondemandnews Twitter: https://twitter.com/ODN Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ODN/ If you wish to purchase any of our clips for commercial use, please visit: http://www.itnproductions.co.uk/news/

Divisions in the United States over gun control will be amplified in the run up to November's presidential election. That has been particularly stark in the state of Tennessee. A year ago a shooting at a school in the state capital Nashville that left three nine-year-olds dead sparked protests in the legislative building. Democrat representative Justin Jones, megaphone in hand, backed the protestors' calls for tighter controls and was then expelled. This week in Tennessee a gun law was passed, but not one that makes it more difficult to carry weapons.
